Meet the Doctors

James C. Papp, DMD

Dr. James Papp, a Grand Rapids native, graduated from the College of Wooster with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1991.  He received his D. M. D. degree from the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry in 1995 and then completed his certificate in Periodontics at The University of Michigan in 1998.

Dr. Papp went on to practice for five years at one of the leading periodontal and dental implant practices in the Chicago-land area.  In December 2003, Dr. Papp returned to his hometown, Grand Rapids, Michigan to open his private practice.  Since then, he has expanded to practice locations serving Kentwood and Big Rapids areas.  Dr. Papp has lectured to the dental community on numerous occasions offering continuing education on the benefits of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), Implant Dentistry, Dental Laser surgery as well as oral esthetic hard and soft tissue reconstruction.

Dr. Papp is currently Immediate Past President of the Kent County Dental Society. Currently serving his 7th year on West Michigan District Dental Society Board. He is an active member of the American Academy of Periodontology, active and certified member of the Academy of Laser Dentistry, the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, the Midwest Periodontal Society, the American Dental Association, the American Association of Dental Research, and the American Society of Forensic Odontology.

Chris J. Leja, DMD

Dr. Chris Leja was born and raised in Grand Rapids.  After graduating from the University of Michigan with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering in 2001, he spent several years in the Detroit area working in the automotive industry.  He received his doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine and then went on to receive his certificate in periodontics from the Eastman Institute for Oral Health at the University of Rochester.

Dr. Leja is currently Vice President of the Kent County Dental Society and serves on the board of West Michigan District Dental Society.  He has lectured on dental implants and periodontics, and pursues continuing education opportunities in Michigan and around the country.  He leads  a study club of local dentists and dental specialists that meets regularly to share and advance dental knowledge.

In addition to being a board-certified periodontist, Dr. Leja is an active member of the American Academy of Periodontology, the American Dental Association and the Michigan Dental Association.

In his free time, Dr. Leja enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters. He also enjoys outdoor activities such as skiing, running, and biking.
